Hey there !
It was Saturday, February 1, 2019. The day before, my accountant processed our quarterly tax payments and the balance left in the biz checking account was under $1,000. I was charged a service fee for having less than the required minimum balance.
My credit card bill for regular operating expenses was near $4,000 and I had another $1500 of bills due within the week. I had just recently committed to Jeffrey’s yearlong program for $25,000. But the real punch in the gut was that I did not have any known source of new income on the horizon.
I felt terrified, overwhelmed, panicked, angry, and vulnerable. It was one of the SHITTIEST moments of 2019.
Another was when we were told that the cost to repair the sinking back end of our house could cost $10,000 or more. And there was the day our beloved “resident crane”, Rose, got caught in the fence and died. And when Linda, a client I’ve coached for more than 15 years, suddenly and unexpectedly lost her battle with cancer.
Things happened between Dan and I – commitments and promises broken – that had me doubt our marriage was going to last. And there were all the gut-wrenching coaching calls with Pat that had me see parts of myself and my behaviors that filled me with shame.
Like I said… shitty stuff.
Looking back now, I can see that in the midst of all this shit, I also experienced tremendous GRACE. Inspiration came “out of nowhere”. New clients showed up that I didn’t anticipate. A program or coaching call provided EXACTLY the tools and support I needed. Songs and speakers showed up “randomly” on YouTube with the message I needed to
hear.
Those of us who knew Linda gathered to remember her and felt blessed, connected, loved and supported. A friend had a different solution and was able to fix the sinking part of our house for less than $1,000! A new pair of cranes began hanging out on our property. We found a new-to-the-area marriage counselor who Dan really liked. Communication opened
between us. Dan started keeping his commitments.
Oh – and all the bills got paid last February.
As for the gut-wrenching calls with Pat? I experienced being unconditionally loved and supported despite all my shit being exposed. Talk about grace!
I share this with you today because, on the eve of a New Year, I invite you to look back over the past year and remember the SHITTY moments you experienced. The times when it felt like everything was falling apart. The times that were hard. The times you screwed up or did something stupid. The times when you experienced loss and grief,
overwhelm, fear and hardship – when you felt ashamed.
It’s not that I want you to feel shitty all over again – it’s so that you, too, can see the GRACE that was there with you and for you during those times.
And it WAS there, , or you would not still be here. Without grace, the pain, fear, heartache, challenges and hardships would have sunk you.
I’m inviting you to look back at these shitty moments and begin to see the unexpected happenings that remind you that you were not alone and that there was a Force at work on your behalf that you might not have been able to see at the time. It was there, in the midst of the shit, when you experienced love, acceptance, connection, resources, support, inspiration, guidance that
you did not manufacture or earn yourself – and might not even be able to explain.
I’ve inviting you to look back at those shitty times to see that something bigger and more loving was at work in your life through it all. This something bigger (that I call God) is ALWAYS at work on your behalf, – for your good and the good of all. It’s what I call grace.
This past year, in a moment of grace, I was given a new definition of “abundance”…
“Abundance is KNOWING (in every fiber of your being) that you are part of something bigger than you – something more loving, creative, powerful, resourceful, generous, intelligent, kind and compassionate than you – and you have access to all that you need.”
Only by learning to see GRACE – especially in the shitty times – can we begin to trust that we are not alone and it is not all “up to us”. That’s how we can experience the abundance that is available to us – that we always have access to what we need (even if that is not always what we want.). That’s when we can move into a new day and a new year without fear
or scarcity – but with hearts and minds open to peace, faith, freedom and abundance.
Blessings, GRACE and peace, – today and throughout this New Year!
xoxo
T.
